Hands-on Activity: Nocturnal Animal Art

Skill: art, apply knowledge

Materials: black construction paper, gray or yellow construction paper, twigs, googly eyes, silver glitter paint or glitter glue (optional)

  • This project is quick and easy and makes for a great display and discussion starter! Give each child a sheet of black construction paper. Kids can paint a thin layer of silver glitter paint or glitter glue for a twinkling stars effect.
  • Have kids glue a gray or yellow circle near the top for a moon, and glue twigs on the paper for trees. Now they have a nighttime forest!
  • Finally, have kids glue pairs of googly eyes in different spots on the paper. When finished, display kids’ work and talk about who is hiding in the forest! What nocturnal animal might each pair of eyes belong to?
