Skill: word families

Materials: Bat Cave Phonics skill sheet, scissors

• Take advantage of the bat theme to explore the –at word family! Cut out the bats on the skill sheets. Then draw a large cave shape and mount it on a bulletin board.
• Place the bats in a paper bag and tell children that only bats with words in the –at family are allowed in the bat cave!
• Let children take turns picking a bat from the bag and attaching it inside or outside the cave according to the ending sound.
