Simple, spectacular ideas to boost your lessons.

Paired Text: How to Catch a Leprechaun by Adam Wallace

  • In rhyming verse, a leprechaun tells how he’ll escape from every possible trap . . . until someone manages to outwit him. But who will that someone be?

Scavenger Hunt: Find the Gold

  • Kids found the pot of gold in the issue. Now challenge them to find the word! As you hunt through the issue, circle the word gold each time you see it.

Class Brainstorm: Lucky Little Leprechauns

  • Everyone knows that leprechauns are lucky. Why not sneak a little gratitude practice into your St. Patty’s Day celebration? Write We are lucky because . . . at the top of a sheet of chart paper. Ask volunteers to finish the sentence.
  • You can write responses in green marker and have kids draw shamrocks around the border!

Hands-on Activity: Shamrock Snack

Skill: make a healthy snack

Materials: green peppers, hummus or other dip, green food coloring

  • Celebrate St. Patty’s Day with a healthy snack. Slice green peppers crosswise to make rings. The rings come out in a shamrock shape! Place each ring on a plate, with a small slice of green pepper at the bottom for a stem.
  • Have kids help you make “leprechaun dip” to serve with the shamrocks. Just add green food coloring to hummus (or any other dip) and stir!
