  • Play our video Leaves Through the Seasons.
  • After watching, ask, “What do the leaves look like in our area in autumn?” Let children share any other signs of autumn where they live.
  • Read the mini book together.
  • Point out that it’s a song. Sing the song on the cover together. Then you can sing a whole verse for each page!
  • Use the Show What You Know printable to boost comprehension and early literacy skills.
  • Build visual discrimination skills with our digital game Autumn Find It.
  • Kids can practice letter recognition to reveal a mystery picture with our Color by Letter skill sheet.
Example of a completed skill sheet

Materials: My Leaf skill sheet, leaves, crayons

  • Print out the My Leaf skill sheet. Then go outdoors and hunt for leaves! Let each child choose a leaf to study.
  • Invite kids to fill in the skill sheet with the attributes of the leaf they chose. Then they can make a leaf rubbing so they have a “copy” of it!
  • Kids can share their work to compare and contrast their leaves.
