Paired Text: ABC de los buenos modales by Susanna Isern

  • Pluc, the monster, is spending some days with his human friends, Lila and Leo.
  • He doesn't know how to behave but his friends will teach him with the letters of the alphabet how to help, share and say thank you.

Language: ¿Cómo saluda la gente?

  • All over the world, people say hello in different ways. Try using a “saludo del día” to greet each other with each morning!
  • Greetings to teach include hello, bonjour, ciao, jambo, konichiwa, ni hao, shashalom, aloha, and namaste.

Scavenger Hunt: h

  • ¡Hola comienza con h! Together, find and circle every uppercase and lowercase h in the mini book.

Hands-on Activity: Tablón de bienvenida

Skill: writing and drawing

Materials: construction paper, crayons

  • Create an adorable “hola”” bulletin board display. Help each child trace one hand and forearm up to the elbow.
  • Cut out the tracings and let children decorate their hands and arms with crayons and any other art materials you like. Encourage them to use their favorite colors and designs, and write their name on the arm.
  • Create a banner that says, “¡Saluda a tu clase de kindergarten!” and attach children’s waving hands all around it. The different colors and patterns are a great way to point out diversity (and community) in the classroom.
