  • Together, brainstorm foods to make from pumpkin as you write them on the board. ¿Cuál fue la comida que se mencionó en la revista? ¡Sopa de calabaza! You can also make semillas de calabaza, tarta de calabaza, pan de calabaza, and frijoles con calabaza!

Hands-on Activity: Cultiva una calabaza dentro de una calabaza

Skill: plant science

Materials: small pumpkin, soil

  • What’s another way to use a pumpkin? As a planter! Carve the top off of a small pumpkin and scoop out the pulp and seeds to make a "tiesto de calabaza.” Add soil and water to the pulpy seeds, filling the pumpkin almost to the top.
  • Let your pumpkin get sunlight and water as needed. Pretty soon, you’ll see a new pumpkin sprout inside the pumpkin!
