Simple, spectacular ideas to boost your lessons.

Phonological Awareness: Find the Plurals!

  • Read the cover aloud. Have kids point at plurals, or words that name more than one thing (libros, bloques, calcetines and crayones.)
  • Together, try thinking of why we know these words are plural. (They end in s or es)

Vocabulary: Draw the Word

  • Kids learned a new word: ordenado. Help make the word “stick” by having kids draw what the word means.
  • Use our skill sheet “Dibuja la palabra,” or have them draw it in a word journal.

Hands-on Activity: Reverse Classroom Scavenger Hunt

Skill: critical thinking, following directions

Materials: items from different areas of the classroom, paper or cloth bag

  • Help kids get to know their classroom! Gather items from different areas of the room (a block from the block center, a book from the book corner, a paintbrush from the easel).
  • Make sure there is one item for each child. Put the items in a bag or box.
  • Sit in a circle and let kids take turns taking something out (no peeking)!
  • Challenge each child to find where the item came from and put it back in its place. If children are having trouble, you can say “más cerca” or “más lejos” until
  • they find the right spot.
