  • Before watching our video Nuestra bandera, ask kids what they know about the American flag.
  • After watching, ask, “¿Por qué creen que hay reglas para cuidar de nuestra bandera?”
  • Read the magazine together. After you read, have kids retell the rules for taking care of the American flag.
  • Then check comprehension skills with the Demuestra lo que sabes skill sheet.
  • Children practice sound discrimination and matching letters with sounds in our ¿Cómo se escribe? game.
  • Our Colorea las estrellas skill sheet is another way to reinforce the skill kids practiced in the game.

Materials: Mi bandera skill sheet, crayons, pencils

  • After learning about the American flag and how it represents our country, children can make their own flag to represent themselves!
  • Hand out copies of the skill sheet and explain that they will each make a flag that tells about them. Ask them to use their favorite colors and draw a picture of something they love.
  • When kids are finished with their flags, they can fill in the sentences at the bottom. You can display kids’ flags and discuss how they represent the flag makers!
